Dyslexia Can Be Determined in 10 Minutes

Dr. Van der Lely has developed a ten minute assessment to determine if a child is dyslexic. This is extremely good news for parents and educators who often have trouble with assessing this issue. It has been tested on over 600 children and targets phonology, morphology, and syntax.

More information about the test, GAP, can be found here.

QA, I'm glad you caught this story.

I hope that the GAPS screening instrument turns out to be as good as we would like it to be. As with most broad and quick screens, I suspect that the students whom it identifies will need to be assessed in greater detail. I doubt it's going to turn out to be a foolproof identification system in and of itself.

But we need these quick screens so that we can make sure that we identify students who need help and get the help to them as early as possible. I'm tired of waiting for them to outgrow their problems. Let's teach them effectively!

Thanks,

JohnL
